Xiao Liuqiu (小琉球嶼), The Playful Life
Xiaoliuqiu (小琉球嶼) is a small island in southwest Taiwan. The ground is rather infertile, yet the sea ripe with plenty of fish. Fishing was historically the most important industry, taken over by tourism in the last decades. Such a process might be driven by opportunities and hopes, but it carries setbacks in its tow. As more and more tourists come, the fishing industry loses workers for their catch – and the corals as shipping grounds.
And yet, as I wrote in its main article, Xiao Liuqiu (小琉球嶼) is a calm place with a beautiful devil-may care attitude – maybe because of the tourism. Taipei is often elegant, busy, tired. This small island on the other side takes a playful approach to life. Something I sometimes thirst for, and that I adore about other beaches, Waiao above all else.
